UTS Bursary Fund
’Tis almost the season! Honour your child’s teachers! Are you looking for the perfect way to honour a UTS staff member this holiday season? Make a gift to the UTS Bursary Fund in their honour and help UTS students at the same time.
Personalized notification messages will be sent to honorees – please make your donation by December 16!
Gifts of Securities
Making a gift of publicly traded stocks, bonds and other securities is a tax-smart and easy way to support UTS. All direct gifts of securities are exempt from capital gains tax which makes them a popular donation vehicle. As a reminder, the Office of Advancement will be closing on December 20 and will reopen on January 6, so if you are planning to make a gift of securities in 2024, we encourage you to send your completed donation form by December 6 to ensure settlement before the end of the year.
AP Exam Invoices
Payment Due Friday, November 22
On-time AP exam registration is now closed. Parents can access invoices and pay for exams in MyUTS.
Payments are due tomorrow - Friday, November 22. Late payments will be subject to additional fees (AP Fee Overview).
Families are encouraged to ensure the invoices match the exams their students want to write (students will only be registered for AP exams appearing on the invoice).
Contact APExams@utschools.ca with any questions or concerns.
Lost and Found Blitz
Lost and found items are located in the L1 Lobby. Students can pick up their jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, pencil cases, binders and more. There are many items so if your child is missing something they should take a look. Items not retrieved by November 29 will be donated to charity. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please label your child's belongings with their name so it is easier for them to locate and identify their things. Many children have similar coats, water bottles, sweatshirts, binders, etc. and it is difficult for them to differentiate between items. Thank you for your cooperation.
Language Matters: Mental Health Literacy
Just like physical health, we all have mental health. When we think about ways to support young people, awareness of how language matters when speaking about mental health is essential. Knowing about something is not the same as knowing something (teenmentalhealth.org). Awareness with literacy can lead to improved and better access to support/care for those that need it. We encourage you to take a moment and visit TeenMentalHealth.org and/or watch this video on Mental Health Literacy.
It is important to use the right language when we are talking about mental health in order to:
get the right kind of help when needed
be clear about the language we use to tell others how we are feeling
avoid seeking treatment when it is not needed
avoid the risk of making light of serious concerns or pathologizing expected ups and downs
Additionally, here is a toolbox that includes resources on how to support a friend experiencing mental health challenges that you can share with your child.
For any thoughts or questions, please feel free to reach out to social.work.staff@utschools.ca
Summer Experiential Program
UTSPA is once again pleased to be launching the popular Summer Experiential Program
We are seeking volunteers to host students for short workplace experiences, help students experience a ‘day in the life’ of your work environment and share your knowledge, thoughts and insights in your field or industry.
More information will be released in the following weeks. Contact the SEP Co-leads with any questions: christine.wong@utschools.ca, randy.pang@utschools.ca
