New Students/Families - UTORid (U of T account) Activation for Library Access

In the afternoon on Friday, October 31, new students received an email with the subject line “UTORid (U of T account) Activation.” Within this email are detailed instructions guiding students how to activate their U of T account, which includes setting up their password and password recovery (so they may reset their password online in the future, if needed). We would greatly appreciate your support by checking in with your child to ensure they’ve completed all of the steps outlined in the email. Students who do not activate their account will not be able to access the in-person and online resources offered through U of T Libraries, and will not be eligible to receive their TCard, which serves as the library card for the Evans Library at UTS and the U of T Libraries.

The UTS IT team has been working in collaboration with U of T to have these accounts created and also to have new student TCards created. When the TCards are ready to be picked up in the near future, students will hear from Evans Library staff again.

Thank you for your support in ensuring all students have access to the amazing resources available through the U of T Libraries!

Social Work Parent Talks - Supporting Student Well-Being

The Social Work Department continues to host a series of online parent talks designed to build community and support student well-being both at school and home. So far, UTS social workers have hosted conversations with F1 and F2 parents. Thoughtful questions were asked, many of which were common wonders.

The next scheduled parent talk will be for M3 parents/caregivers on Wednesday, November 12 at noon via Zoom.

To collectively normalize the experiences of young people and foster overall well-being, we invite you to explore the Key Takeaways from past sessions.
We welcome parents/caregivers to connect directly with our team would like to consult at anytime: social.work.staff@utschools.ca

Our inaugural event will be held on Thursday, November 27, celebrating a variety of holidays including Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, Yalda, Khushali and Kwanzaa. We invite parents to share any other celebrations important to their family so we can include as many traditions as possible in future events.

Fireside Chat

Principal Dr. Leanne Foster, Head of Senior School Jill Strimas and Head of Middle School Royan Lee discussed topics ranging from student wellness and ethical use of technology to school spirit and assessments.

Thank you to our virtual guests for your patience as we addressed some technical issues during the event last night. The audio levels are fixed in this recording, and the video element starts to work around five minutes in.

Finding Their University Match

Too often, postsecondary searches start with a school’s name. As New York Times writer Jeffery Selingo points out, this can mean we begin the process halfway through!

This week, our M3 to S6 students flipped that script by taking part in a “Meet Your University Match” event. Before meeting representatives, students completed a character-based activity to uncover what qualities matter most to them. Using adjectives that reflected their ideal “vibe,” they then visited the schools that matched their interests and personalities.

By putting fit first, students explored universities in a more meaningful and personalized way — discovering that the best school isn’t always the most famous one, but the one that feels like home.
