Opening the Door to Meaningful Dialogue and Firsthand Connection

As a busy school with demanding courses, things at UTS often move at lightspeed with deadlines, tests, homework and co-curricular commitments. An amazing energy thrives at our school, but the environment also brings unique challenges, not just for students but for the families who support them. Families are such a vital part of the UTS community: we want to be there for you as you navigate the UTS experience with your children. This year, we are working to create opportunities for dialogue and connection that go beyond immediate concerns and questions to the bigger picture of our school ‒ opening the door to informal gatherings with our community where we can get to know each other in a casual, friendly manner.

This week’s Fireside Chat was one of those events. Following the Welcome Back BBQ at the start of the school year, the Fireside Chat was another opportunity for ongoing parent conversations along with a chance to meet UTS Board Chair Peter Buzzi ’77 and other members of the Board of Directors. Hearing from Head of Middle School Royan Lee and Head of Senior School Jill Strimas provided insight into the school’s work on leadership, learning, technology and more. For those unable to attend, the recording of the event can be found below.

We know that a strong home–school partnership is one of the most powerful contributors to student success and well-being. When parents and educators connect, share perspectives and build mutual understanding, students benefit from the sense of alignment and care that surrounds them.

In the months ahead, we’ll continue to create spaces for conversation and collaboration ‒ both formal and informal. Whether through upcoming parent information evenings, like the AI Panel Presentation on November 19, or casual community gatherings, our goal is to keep strengthening the ties that make UTS a vibrant and supportive community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Fireside Chat, and to all parents who continue to engage so thoughtfully with our school. Your partnership helps us ensure that UTS remains not only a place of academic excellence, but also a connected, compassionate community where every student can thrive.

We look forward to seeing you at future events and continuing this important dialogue together.

Thank you to our virtual guests for your patience as we addressed some technical issues during the event last night. The audio levels are fixed in this recording, and the video element starts to work around five minutes in.
